Is the Father and the Son Eternal?

August 7th, 2020

Out of this list Henry proves from Scripture that Jesus has the same qualities and attributes as the Father, yet He is distinct from the Father.

Let us look at some of these evidences that Henry gives us.

Is the Father eternal?

This is a basic premise, but this verse is used in the Christmas Story “let's ask for you Bethlehem ...” From you one will go forth from me... “From the days of eternity”. Micah 5, 2

Hear, O peoples, all of [a]you;
Listen, O earth and [b]all it contains,
And let the Lord [c]God be a witness against you,
The Lord from His holy temple.

As you can see the father and the son share an attribute of eternity. Jesus more as the word has the same eternal title of I am.  John 2, 14,

Rev 1,11,

11 saying, “Write in a [i]book what you see, and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.” nasb

17,

17 When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. And He placed His right hand on me, saying, “Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last,

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who [f]is to come, the Almighty.”

2, 8

“And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write:

The first and the last, who [e]was dead, and has come to life, says this:

Bickersteth shows that Jesus Christ is also almighty.  He is just asking attributes about the Father and the Son.  We are not looking at the incarnation yet; just the basics.
